Update: July 28, 2014

Chase has added a new 24-months wait policy to Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink, Chase Freedom, Chase Marriott and Chase United MileagePlus cards.  For example, the following is the popular Chase Sapphire Preferred card offer details.  Somehow I feel that Chase is conducting a test on this new change.  If the result is favorable, Chase would keep this new policy.

40,000 Bonus Points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. This new cardmember bonus offer is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of this consumer credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of this consumer credit card who received a new cardmember bonus for this consumer credit card within the last 24 months.

You probably already know the special link to receive Chase Marriott Rewards Premier credit card 70,000 bonus points offering, for example, from my blogsite home page, better than the regular 50,000 bonus points.

Two months ago, I started noticing a change in Chase policy in the limited-time Chase Freedom 20000 + 2500 bonus offer of two months ago,

This new cardmember bonus offer is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of this consumer credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of this consumer credit card who received a new cardmember bonus for this consumer credit card within the last 24 months.

Early this week, I received an email offering of limited-time Chase Marriott 70,000 bonus points, yet the sign-up bonus is also available for card applicant who have not had Chase Marriott within the last 24 months, with a little higher spending requirement is $2000 in the first 3 months.

We can earn Marriott sign-up bonus points again!
  1. If you are first-time applicant for Chase Marriott credit card, apply via this link.  Minimum spending $1000 in the first 3 months should be easy.
  2. If you have not had active Chase Marriott credit card within the last 24 months, apply via this link.  Minimum spending $2000 in the first 3 months would still be manageable.

Q1:  Is this credit card offering attractive?
  • 5 Marriott reward points per dollar spent at Marriott hotel using this credit card - If you like Marriott/Ritz Carlton hotels, or stays at Marriott/Ritz Carlton often for your personal or business trips, have good FICO score (required for the Premier card version), and fit either one or both of the requirements above, then this credit card is a perfect one for you at least first year.
  • Perfect card to experience Marriott hotel for free - the credit card offers no introductory fee of $85 during the first year and no foreign transaction fee.  In addition to the 70,000 sign-up bonus points, the card offers a one-night free hotel stay certificate for category 1-4 for first-time applicant.  It takes only 20 minutes to apply card online and $1000 regular spending in the first 3 months to earn easy free Marriott hotel nights.
  • Point redemption of hotel night includes all taxes and tips unless exception is noted by the hotel.

Q2:  What to do with left-over Marriott reward points?
  • Marriott reward program offers a transfer option to popular frequent flyer programs such as United Airlines, American Airlines, Singapore Airlines.
  • Transfer UR points from Chase Ink or Chase Sapphire Preferred card to Marriott reward program just enough to redeem a night-stay at Marriott hotel.

Q3:  Did I apply for this Chase Marriott card if 70,000 bonus seems so good?
  • I did not because after reviewing our vacation currencywe still have a good pool of Hilton HHonor and SPG points.  I want to earn more UR points for the rest of 2014.  Nevertheless, my mom applied and received an approval for the Marriott 70,000 sign-up bonus points promotion with the $1000 minimum spending requirement.  She is about to pay her annual home insurance, car registration fee and AAA road emergency service anyway.  So meeting $1000 spending requirement this time for her is straightforward and effortless without spending more than what she needs to spend
  • I just applied for limited-time Chase Ink card 60,000 points and need to wait for at least 6 months for another Chase card.  Bigger sign-up bonus has been observed for Q4 of each year.  I plan to apply for Chase Freedom card for my own and keep it to improve FICO score.

Q4:  How much is 70,000 Marriott reward points worth?
Like any currency, there is a trend of devaluation.  As of July 2014, it would be worth about $600 USD to me.  For two nights, one can transfer 20,000 UR points from Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Ink card to Marriott Reward Program.

Q5:  When would I apply for this Chase Marriott Premier Visa Card?

Looking at a bigger picture, I prefer to build a strong fundamental Chase credit card portfolio, i.e. Chase credit cards which I keep every year.  Chase Freedom card is the next.  I recommend to apply this card when your other half would apply it.  For example, then you can have 4 nights stay at a category-9 (top-tier) London Marriott Hotel Park Lane after transferring 40,000 UR points or $400 via Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Ink card, to your Marriott Reward Programs.  Four years ago when we stayed one night at Rome, we paid $200 for one night in a mediocre inn.
