Aloha! We returned from Hawaii a few days ago and have been catching up, including paying bills on-time. Probably because it was our first time to have a Hawaii vacation, so it was indeed a blast to us. I will share about what I have experienced and learned soon. During that period, I was surprised to see Citi ups its Hilton sign-up bonus points offer of Citi Hilton Visa card to 60,000 Hilton HHonors points from the regular promotion offer of 50,000 Hilton HHonors, and a $25 statement credit for eligible car rental.
- 60,000 Hilton HHonors points upon making $1000 purchases within first 4 months of opening the account. For example, good for two night stays at Hilton Santa Cruz, equivalent to $400.
- No annual fee. Some people may forget about annual card fee after receiving the sign-up bonus. This card does not give us this headache.
- Earn $25 statement credit after spending $200 or more on participating car rental companies. This is a nice-to-have, but not a must.
- Promotion ends on 8/31/2014

I believe many people, including myself, have lost quite some interests in the Hilton HHonors points because of the Hilton devaluation in mid-2013, and the recent move to one-time award restriction of American Express credit cards. Wonder if Citi identifies the drops of Citi Hilton credit card applications, or simply a coincidence.
What is special about this offer?
For those who have never experienced Hilton credit cards and Hilton HHonors points, this promotion would be a nice introduction into the Hilton HHonors program. I have only seen offer of bonus 50,000 HHonors points from Citi Hilton during the last 2 years. The additional 10,000 makes 2 night stays requiring 30,000 points possible. Redemption also covers +10% hotel fees and tax for most, not all hotel stays. Call the Hilton hotel ahead to find out.
What is Hilton HHonors program?
It is not a tricky program. Hilton has hotel properties worldwide; that is a major strength of the program. I have shared my understanding and experience in this summary page.
Should you apply for the card?
If you do not go for vacation or even getaway, do not need to consider this credit card. Otherwise,
- One common question is whether Hilton HHonors points expire. The points expire every 12 months unless there is activity added, such as 1 Hilton HHonor points. The easiest way to extend expiration date is to participate in the Hilton HHonors dining program.
- Another concern is about the minimum spending requirement of $1000 in 4 months. In other words, $250 each month. If you pay your expenses for living and do not spend more than $250 per month, please kindly share tricks with me. :-)
- If you have already applied a new credit card within the last 3 months, then may better wait till end of August to apply this Citi Hilton promotion.
